Carta StudioWorks • Door County Update

[Originally written late August 2012]

The move is complete and we are happily ensconced in our new digs in Sister Bay.  It has been a busy summer and we are looking forward to getting out and enjoying fall in Door County.

As many of you know, this is the first year Dave’s work has been being carried at Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek.  It is a beautiful gallery and we encourage you to stop by if you are in Door County — very much worth the visit.

Also, Dave’s solo show is coming up at Grace Chosy Gallery in Madison. It is titled “Ambient” and runs September 7- 29. The show will feature over 25 new works that look closely at our surroundings and transform what is seen into images of serenity and beauty.  We will be there for the opening reception September 7 from 6-8 pm. We hope to see you there!

Visit www.CartaStudioWorks.com for more images and information on the “Ambient” show.

New Beginnings

The prospect of a new year has us thinking about both the past and the future … so we’ve decided to start a blog to capture notes about what is happening at Carta StudioWorks.  Both of us will write short updates, but expect to see more from Dave as 2010 begins.

Looking back for a moment, 2009 was a year of developing new work and experimenting with new techniques and subject matter.  We’re thinking especially of the figurative works we presented at Madison’s Spring Gallery Night.  Abstracts and landscapes have since dominated, but figures have become part of the scene and the Fall Gallery Night show had some of both.

We love participating in MMoCA’s gallery night events… so energizing to engage with people coming to look at artwork.  Since many have asked Dave how he creates the work, he’s written a fuller description of his technique and, in the process, updated his artist’s statement – to read them, please see our website sections: Artist Statement and The Artwork.  We also really enjoyed hosting our potter friends, Dean Schwarz and Nate and Hallie Evans for the Spring and Fall Gallery Nights last year.

Looking ahead, Dave continues to create new work while Paula works on the website and other marketing activities.  We’re both looking forward to seeing Dave’s work in a number of juried exhibitions this winter as well as to opening for another Spring Gallery Night show (Friday, May 7).  We’re also excited to welcome back Nate & Hallie Evans of Allamakee Wood-Fired Pottery.  We hope to see you there.
