100 Artists of the Midwest, (2012) by E. Ashley Rooney. Dave Tilton pp 202-203.

Book Description from Schiffer

This expansive book takes a fresh look at 100 living artists from the Midwest, their personal stories and inspirations, along with several examples of their works. A wealth of urban settings, wide plains, flourishing cities, rushing rivers, and placid lakes are source material and inspiration for the artists. These works show how each artist interprets life. They explore the richness of the homegrown imagery of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin – their culture, society, and environment. They are delineating our stories for future generations in oil, pastels, sculpture, and other media. Their works are displayed in over 600 full color images. This book is essential for all who appreciate or practice art today.

Other artists in the book whose work you may be familiar with includes: Michael Banning, Stephanie Barencz, Rodger Bechtold, Mary Bero, Mark Brautigam, Sheryl Budnik, Mark Chatterley, Yueh-Mei Cheng, Terrance James Coffman, Leslie DeMuth, Joel Elgin, Patrick Farrell, Raymond Gloeckler, Martha Hayden, Mike Kelly, Helen Klebesadel, Cathy Martin, Lon Michels, John Mominee, Francisco X. Winter Lake Day featured this month

“Winter Lake Day” (25″ x 40″) graces the month of February in Welcome Home, the 2012 Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission Art Calendar. If you haven’t picked up a calendar yet, please consider doing so either downtown at the Commission’s office in the City-County building, at the municipal offices of cities, towns, and village throughout the county, or at a number of local sales partners.  There’s still ten more months to enjoy the beautiful artwork of Dane County artists, including our friend Kay Brathol-Hostvet’s “Distant” in March.

In its thirteen edition, sales of the annual art calendar help support the Commission’s mission and programs to foster public participation, increase access, and forge alliances in support of arts, culture and local history.  Alliant Energy provided generous support for the 2012 edition.  See the Commission’s website: Dane Arts for more information.
